SUMMARY:Letters to Lindy: A staged reading
DESCRIPTION:By Alana Valentine. Directed by Susan Lynch. \nFriday 30th August – 7:30pm\nSaturday 31st August – 7:30pm\nSunday 1st September – 3:00pm \nTickets available here | $12/$15 \n“A dingo’s got my baby”. \nThe ensuing events and court cases captivated a nation. A mother accused of murdering her child\, her claim of a dingo taking her baby denied and discredited. It divided the nation into those supporting the dingo theory and those who saw the mother as evil. \nFor the first time in Perth\, the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts presents a staged reading of the powerful script by Alana Valentine based on the vast collection of more than 20\,000 letters written to Lindy and the transcripts from the many coroner inquests and court cases. It reveals the media circus\, the rumours\, the rancour\, the vitriol and kindness and support\, the prejudices and a flawed legal system. \nVictoria Park Centre for the Arts has gathered an ensemble of Perth’s talented and accomplished performers to present this riveting and thought-provoking work. \nPermission: Creative Representation Pty Ltd (o.b.o. SUMMARY:September Cultural Dinner (sold out!)
DESCRIPTION:Discover the ways that culture and cuisine are interwoven on a laid-back evening getting to know your neighbours with delicious homemade food. \nCultural Dinners are an interactive experience where a local host prepares a meal to share their unique story and heritage. After introductions\, guests join in preparing an element of the dinner before having a homely sit-down meal together. \nJoin us to see how global migration has shaped the cultures and cuisines in your community … \nThe Cultural Sharing Dinners Project is an initiative of the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts\, in collaboration with Victoria Park Community Centre. This project is funded by the Department of Communities through its Empowering Communities Programme. \nPlease note: \nThis is a community event rather than a restaurant experience\, so emphasis is put on connection\, respect and learning together. The evening’s culture/cuisine is detailed in the event info but may be subject to change to accommodate any last-minute changes in hosts. Guests are welcome to BYO alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages to accompany the meal; table water is provided. Unfortunately\, we are not able to cater for all dietary requirements as we already ask so much from our hosts; however\, there are vegetarian options at each dinner. \nHosting: \nIf you would like to host a session\, please contact Alice Goodall on culturaldinner.vp@gmail.com or call: 0400 576 606. \nAll hosts receive a fee\, travel supplement and a budget for ingredients. Support will be provided to imagine and plan your date. Absolutely no experience necessary! \nAccess: \nVic Park Community Centre has ample parking on site and is on a number of bus routes. It has step free access\, a disabled toilet with baby change\, access to outdoor space and gender-neutral toilets. All support workers are welcome to attend free of charge. \nWe try our best to make our events inclusive of all\, if you have any requirements\, please be in touch with Alice Goodall on Alice Goodall on culturaldinner.vp@gmail.com or call: 0400 576 606.
