SUMMARY:Artist talk: Victor Ronan ‘50 Years of Deadly’
DESCRIPTION:Victor Ronan is the local feature artist for ‘50 years of Deadly’\, our 2026 NAIDOC Week Exhibition. Come to see him speak about this collection of beautiful paintings on Saturday 11 July. \nVictor started painting at VPCA’s Create Connect art workshops in 2021 before concentrating on developing his skills through more individually focused studies\, where Victor connected with the stories from his family. Victor’s technical approach references the work of local Noongar artists\, trained in Western styles of drawing and painting from the Carrolup School in the early part of the 20th century. Victor’s story echoes this year’s NAIDOC theme of determination and resilience\, studying and honouring his culture; continuing to develop a personal artistic voice. \n(Pictured: Victor Ronan ‘Outback Desert’)

After introductions\, guests join in preparing an element of the dinner before having a homely sit-down meal together. Join us to see how global migration has shaped the cultures and cuisines in your community…\n\nThe Cultural Sharing Dinners Project is an initiative of the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts\, in collaboration with Victoria Park Community Centre. This project is funded by the Department of Communities through its Empowering Communities Programme.\n\nPlease note:\nThis is a community event rather than a restaurant experience\, so emphasis is put on connection\, respect and learning together. The evening’s culture/cuisine is detailed in the event info but may be subject to change to accommodate any last-minute changes in hosts. Guests are welcome to BYO alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages to accompany the meal; table water is provided. Unfortunately\, we are not able to cater for all dietary requirements as we already ask so much from our hosts; however\, there are vegetarian options at each dinner.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: ‘An Unnatural History of Moths’ Christopher Crouch and Cherish Marrington
DESCRIPTION:Opening event: Friday 7 August\, 6.00pm-8.30pm\nExhibition runs: 7 August – 25 August 2026\n \n‘An Unnatural History of Moths’ is a collection of drawings and watercolours based on the concept of camouflaged moths. The moths are fictitious and exist in a fictitious landscape\, but the principles of camouflage remain. They are both apart from the landscape and pretending to be it. The world that is depicted is a figment of the artist’s imagination\, and the process by which they are made involves Christopher Crouch and Cherish Marrington working on the same work\, creating a space that is coherent but alienating. This show is a part of an ongoing body of work. \n‘We are faced with an environmental catastrophe where an established cannon of beauty means nothing as forests die\, species vanish and the natural world that we thought would give us solace forever burns and floods and changes into something new.’
