Some words from the artist Ryck Rudd;
"Four months after my first solo show, I’m delighted to invite you all to my second exhibition this year! I’ve been supported by Victoria Park’s Centre for the Arts who’ve graciously lent me their new Pop Up Gallery space.
This exhibition draws upon ancient Western mythology and Freudian psychoanalysis – with a touch of Franz Kafka – to situate the great god Pan in a modern world. I hope to take the half-man half-goat hybrid to a new level, utilizing both humour and body-horror in a series of mixed media pieces – part drawing, part painting.
For SONS OF PAN I’ve selected an age-old transformation-motif to express certain subsets of puberty. For the developing male teenager, “boyish feelings” of shame and inferiority conflict with a growing persistence and lust; characteristics synonymous with libidinous Pan. In my mind Pan and his kith, the rambunctious satyrs and fauns, are the perfect subject to explore artistically the stages between boy and man.
I hope you all will find your way to this exhibition, where I’ll be working for ten days on further additions to the series. As usual, all pieces will be for sale and priced to sell by the closing date."
