Art Practice + Art Business
Conversations over Breakfast
This breakfast series is an initiative of the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts and aims to support the arts/artists within Victoria Park, Perth and WA, as well as contributing to the whole community by sharing knowledge. Each series will consist of four breakfasts commencing with coffee/tea and light meal. The two presentations will cover art practice as well as the business or management of the Arts, with a short Q&A session.

Gemma Weston: Curating and context
Gemma Weston will tell us about her experiences in curating, comparing the roles and responsibilities of the curator of an idiosyncratic gender-specific museum art collection, an independent curator, the ARI manager, the artist-collaborator and the exhibition ‘organiser’ skeptical of the contemporary mania for curating.
Gemma is curator of the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art at the University of Western Australia and also works as an independent producer of exhibitions and texts. Among her very many other interests and activities Gemma was 1/3rd of ‘conspiratorium’ Pet Projects with Dan Bourke and Andrew Varano which ran from March 2016 – March 2017 as an ARI in Bayswater and she will exhibit in 2017 at Campbelltown Art Centre, New South Wales.
